LO2 - Codes and conventions

My Documentary - Are Footballers Heading For Trouble

Codes and Conventions

I feel that my documentary follows documentary conventions firstly by using a structured voice over style presentation,  in order to set out the main body of information in a clear and effective way.

I aimed to present the documentary in such a way that it would guide viewers through my topic without being too heavy or overloading, but still containing enough information so that they were left feeling  informed.

Much of the style of my documentary was question posing with the aim of provoking further discussion and debate. I very much tried not to preach my own views staying unbiased throughout as the presenter, whilst still highlighting both sides of the story and setting the scene to some extent.

In order to give a balanced of information I used a range of sources such a sport science research, which included factual findings from past studies, alongside archived footage and clips from previous documentaries, as well as interviews offering personal views and opinions.

To offer interest and meaning to my documentary I included football match footage as well as intercutting editing to link each scene, established shots and close up to offer greater impact.

The purpose of the documentary was firstly to inform and potentially educate to some degree as well as to offer entertainment through the use of footage and relevant audios, however the central intention from my perspective was to encourage further discussion to make people explore the topic further to perhaps do their own reading and research to enable them to be better informed and draw their own opinions.
